[wikileaks, hurricane in Haiti, midterm elections, tensions in South/North Korea, release of Aung San Suu Kyi, US foreclosures, rebound of the economy....whatever interests you)
Search using Google Images for keywords associated with the event. Choose a variety of visual sources (4+) that comment on this event; select images with details you can understand and discuss. (Photographs, editorial cartoons, maps, graphs, advertisements...).
How can PROXIMITY, ALIGNMENT, REPETITION, CONTRAST, and FOCUS be used to understand the composition of individual images / understand the cluster of images as a group? How does accompanying text contextualize the images? How do the SPEAKER, AUDIENCE, and CONTENT reveal the PURPOSE of individual/collective images? How do these images make an argument?
Copy and paste the images along with associated captions into a word processed document that analyzes the composition of the image, and how elements of the image (as well as any accompanying text) provide commentary on the event.
Focus on organization through synthesis - based on ideas, not sources. (e.g. comparisons among vantage points, clothing, repeated gestures, use of color/contrast, influence of captions)
